The HEDIMED project aims to find out how environmental factors may contribute to the risk of major immune-mediated diseases: type 1 diabetes, celiac disease, asthma and allergies.

Together with colleagues Jill Norris and Randi Johnson in Colorado, Lars C. Stene have written a solicited review article in the March 2020 issue of Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology.

On Saturday, February 8th we celebrated our 30th anniversary with a succesful anniversary symposium.

Our Annual report from 2019 shows a highly active year with more than 110 research papers published in international scientific journals, within a wide range of topics, from basal, clinical, epidemiological and translational research. More than 50 ongoing research projects are currently running, and seven PhD students defended their theses during the year 2019.

Cand.med. Espen Nordheim at Institute of Clinical Medicine will be defending the thesis “Pancreas transplantation and normoglycaemia” for the degree of PhD (Philosophiae Doctor) on January 8.

Cand.med. Marit Elizabeth von Düring at Institute of Clinical Medicine will be defending the thesis “Associations between visceral fat, post transplant diabetes and arterial stiffness in kidney transplant recipients” for the degree of PhD (Philosophiae Doctor) on December 12.

World Diabetes Day (WDD) was created in 1991 by IDF and the World Health Organization. World Diabetes Day became an official United Nations Day in 2006. It is marked every year on 14 November.

HYPERGLYCAEMIA IN PREGNANCY, BIRTH WEIGHT AND DIABETES IN LATER LIFE

The Norwegian Diabetes Association's research awards are awarded to Professor Kåre I. Birkeland and postdoctoral candidate Christine Sommer, the latter receiving the award for younger researchers.

The award ceremony takes place in Oslo University Hall on World Diabetes Day, November 14th at 6 pm.

At ISPAD 2019 in Boston, USA, there will be 7 presentations from members of Oslo Diabetes Reserach Center.

MD Paz Lopez-Doriga Ruiz at Institute of Clinical Medicine defended the thesis “Influenza, Immunization and Diabetes - the DiaFlu study” for the degree of PhD (Philosophiae Doctor) on October 22.
