Ten years of improving glycemic control in pediatric diabetes care

Success in achieving International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes’ glycemic targets varies considerably among countries. This paper seeks to evaluate how HbA1c levels and the use of diabetes technology changed in Norway from 2013 to 2022 and how different measures influence glycemic control.

The authors found that a steady HbA1c decrease from 2013 to 2022 and that the use of insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitoring, and carbohydrate counting were associated with better glycemic control. Girls had higher mean HbA1c levels than boys in 2022, and quality improvement project participation led to improved mean HbA1c for the following 4 years after the project.
