Earlier this autumn, Oslo Diabetes Research Centre announced a call for applications on occasion of the center’s 30th anniversary in 2020. We received several applications and six projects are awarded funding.

MD Ingvild Kristine Blom-Høgestøl at Institute of Clinical Medicine will be defending the thesis Bone health and quality in subjects with morbid obesity - impact of type 2 diabetes and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass for the degree of PhD (Philosophiae Doctor) on June 12.

Paz Lopez-Doriga Ruiz is a visitor researcher at the Department of Clinical Diabetes and Epidemiology at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute in Melbourne.

Gunn-Helen Moen is currently on her second year of her mobility post doctorial research fellowship “Why does low birthweight increase the risk of type 2 diabetes and other cardiometabolic diseases?” funded by the Norwegian research council. The first two years of this project is being undertaken in Brisbane, Australia with the Evans group at University of Queensland.

Katrina Tibballs is a GP and first year PhD student in Anne Karen Jenum’s group at The Department of General Practice, University of Oslo. A couple of months into her PhD she travelled to Melbourne with her family for a 10-month visit at The Department of General Practice, University of Melbourne.

Cand.med Sindre Lee-Ødegård at Institute for Basic Medical Sciences will be defending the thesis “Molecular links between physical activity and insulin sensitivity in men” for the degree of Dr.Philos. (Doctor Philosophiae) on Friday, May 8th.

The HEDIMED project aims to find out how environmental factors may contribute to the risk of major immune-mediated diseases: type 1 diabetes, celiac disease, asthma and allergies.

Together with colleagues Jill Norris and Randi Johnson in Colorado, Lars C. Stene have written a solicited review article in the March 2020 issue of Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology.

On Saturday, February 8th we celebrated our 30th anniversary with a succesful anniversary symposium.

Our Annual report from 2019 shows a highly active year with more than 110 research papers published in international scientific journals, within a wide range of topics, from basal, clinical, epidemiological and translational research. More than 50 ongoing research projects are currently running, and seven PhD students defended their theses during the year 2019.
