Annual Research Seminar, March 9-10, 2017

The annual research seminar of Oslo Diabetes Research Centre gathered researchers from ten different research groups at Thorbjørnrud, March 9-10, 2017. Our researchers assembled to share their experiences in two days of lectures. Ongoing projects, unpublished data and research in progress were discussed. We were also delighted to welcome the invited speakers: Marcel den Hoed, Assistant professor at Uppsala University,  and Bjørn Olav Åsvold, Associate professor at NTNU .

*Marcel den Hoed earned his PhD (2009) in health Sciences at Maastricht University, and after a career Development Fellowship at MRC Epidemiology Unit in Cambridge and a post doc at Karolinska, he is currently Assistant Professor at the Department of Medical Sciences, Molecular Epidemiology and Science for Life Laboratory in Uppsala. His work has centered around genetic and physiological aspects of cardiometabolic traits. Among his main current projects is a systematic evaluation of functional effects of SNPs identified in human genome wide association studies, now in the zebrafish model, where large samples of fish is characterized after “gene editing” using the CRISPR/Cas9 technique. He has authored several papers in high-ranking journals including Nature Genetics, Science Translational Medicine and PLOS Medicine.

** Bjørn Olav Åsvold is associate professor at the Department of Public Health and Nursing, NTNU. He performs research in epidemiology and is a senior consultant in endocrinology. His epidemiological research is related to the HUNT Study – a longitudinal population health study in Norway. Main research areas are diabetes and endocrinology, complications during pregnancy and cardiovascular diseases.
