Oslo Diabetes Research Centre received a large grant from Helse Sør-Øst and is a Diabetes Research Group for the coming three years !

It was really a time of stress: Helse Sør-Øst was due to announce its research grants for 2011.

But we succedeed. We got a large grant 3 mill per year for three year and in addition Kåre Birkeland’s research group got a Ph.D. grant for 3 year together with Christian Drevon  from the Department of Nutrition and a grant for expenses for Vitamin D and type 2 diabetes !

The groups participating  in the succesful research group Diabetes from Helse Sør-Øst are Kåre Birkeland’s group (including Anne Karen Jenum), Knut Dahl-Jørgensen’s group, Tore Henriksen/Jens Bollerslev’s group , Trond Jenssen’s group and  Kristian F. Hanssen’s research group and Christian Drevon from the Department of Nutrition.

The competition for grants was fierce and only 20-25 % of the applications were  funded. Helse Sør-Øst found that the grant for research groups were of extraordinary quality . They therefore allotted 13 grants for research groups of which about half went to cancer research.

We are grateful to Helse Sør-Øst  and will really utilize the money for high quality research to the long benefit for the patients !
